Karachi: The Sindh government on Friday notified the formation of a nine-member joint investigation team (JIT); tasked with investigating the alleged murder of journalist Aziz Memon, a news source reported. According to details, the body will have to submit its findings within a time frame of 15 days. To this effect, it is authorised to seek assistance from any provincial department and/or law-enforcement agency.
The additional inspector general of police (Hyderabad Range) will head the team, whose members include senior superintendents of police of districts Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad and representatives of both the Intelligence Bureau and the Special Branch.
Additional members include Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro Dean of Basic Medical Sciences Dr Ikramuddin Ujjan, Department of Forensic Sciences and Toxicology (LUMHS) Chairman Muhammad Akbar Qazi, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (University of Karachi) Senior Research Officer Shakeel Ahmed, and police surgeon in Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad, Dr Bansidhar.
The body of Aziz, who worked for Sindhi TV channel KTN News and Sindhi-language daily Kawish, was recovered from an irrigation waterway in Naushahro Feroze on February 16. As per reports, the cause of his death was stated to be strangulation.
