Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari withdrew with his bail applications in three cases on Wednesday. He said that he doesn’t want to embarrass someone and he knows the reason why he is suffering.
National Accountability Bureau had cases filed against Zardari that include Park Lane, Tosha Khana luxury vehicles and bulletproof vehicles references. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also accompanied his father in Islamabad and said that his father had made the right decision. He said that these kinds of behaviour have been faced by the party before and they fought before and they will fight now too. Zardari’s pre-arrest bail was rejected by the bench that had names like Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayaniand he was arrested earlier this month.
On Wednesday Zardari was produced by NAB and when he reached the rostrum, he insisted in talking to the judges himself although lawyers were present. He said that he has full faith in court but he would speak himself. He said that he knows why he was in court and is ready to fight with the democracy and he has courage given by Allah so he is withdrawing his petitions. The park lane case is being investigated under two sections of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010. The second case is that he bought vehicles from Tosha Khana and the payment of taxes was made from fake accounts and the third case was because of the purchase of armed vehicles and again payment of duty was done from fake accounts. He claimed that prosecution had made-up false cases against him and the private company he owns was permitted to him by law.
Judicial sources said that the bail criteria for the Avenfield and Talat Ishaq was toughened by the Supreme Court and bail is being granted under extreme cases. However recently in many high profile cases bails have been granted.
