In a formal letter on Thursday PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demands the National Assembly speaker to immediately issue production orders in respect of MNAs Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar to enable them to take the lower house into confidence.
“These both MNAs were taken into custody on May 26, 2019 by the law enforcement agencies because of their involvement in North Waziristan Kharqamar check post incident. Charged with terrorism, he has been given in the custody of counter-terrorism authorities on physical remand for eight days,” Bilawal wrote in the letter.
He raised this demand by saying that the parliament should follow its own rules and laws.
The PPP chairman wrote, “Under Rule 103 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, whenever a member is arrested on criminal charges, the authority concerned must immediately inform the Honorable Speaker, the custodian of the House”. He continued that, “Rule 105 of the Conduct of the Business in NA requires that as soon as the speaker receives such information, he shall right away announce it to the Assembly if in session or by circulation”. He added,“I am not sure whether the Honorable Speaker was immediately informed of the arrest of MNA Ali Wazir or about the status of case against MNA Mohisn Wazir as required under the Rules.
However, he said, the production order was not issued nor House was told about the arrest of Wazir on criminal charges. PPP MNA Mr. Naveed Qamar formally raised it but his plea was ignored,” he added.
Earlier today in NA session, PTI’s lawmaker made vibrant comments in reference to the arrested MNAs which created a disturbance between the government and opposition members.
Khurram Dastagir PML-N leader raised the question over the process of investigation of Superintendent of Police Tahir Dawar who was murdered and his body was recovered from Afghanistan in November 2018 and was handed over to Pakistan’s authorities. He asked that, “It has been nine months since, but the government is yet to provide any information about his killers,” he regretted. “On whose hands should we seek his blood?
Shehryar Afridi – Minister of State for States and Frontier Region (SAFRON) told the House that Afghan intelligence had wanted to hand over SP Dawar’s body to Manzoor Pashteen who is the leader Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM). Shehryar Afridi had been part of delegation receiving SP Dawar’s body.
He added that, “At the time we were receiving his body [at the border], the Pakistani flag was also disrespected,” he claimed, adding: “I cannot share in this House the things that were said against Pakistan.”
“Lawmakers who are the reason behind the discord in the House have no right to remain in the NA”, commented by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan.
The opposition protested against Khan’s comment and they surrounded the speaker’s dias. On the other hand, treasury members started their protest against Karachi’s water shortage.
Khawaja Asif PML-N MNA just after one day of Kharqamar check post incident, suggested the formation of a parliamentary committee to probe the grievances of the residents of ‘tribal areas’ and demands lawmakers to play their role in political resolution.
During a protest on Sunday, Kharqamar check post was attacked resulting death of 13 people and 25 others were injured.
