Announcing the achievement of his 13-day dharna objectives in Islamabad, JUI-F emir Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the basic aim of the protest was not to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government but to protect 123,987 gamlas lining Islamabad roads and streets.
“Al Hamdulillah, I’m glad to announce that not even a single gamla was vandalized during the whole protest and the Azadi March from Karachi to Khyber,” said the grateful Maulana at a press conference, flanked by the gardeners of Islamabad.
When asked about his earlier persistent demand of the prime minister’s resignation, he said everything was meant to protect gamlas.
Veteran journalist Saleem Safi, who predicted the continuity of the protest for three months, said he was not dismayed at the maulana’s decision to abruptly winding up the show.
“In fact, the protest exposed the gamlas cultivating the deal brand of politicians.”
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said he cursed the deal galmas and gamla brand anchors. Saleem Safi did not mind the comment of the PML-N leader but he said he would give a befitting reply to the comment when a PTI leader would call him or someone else a Gamla anchor.
Meanwhile, Hamid Mir has claimed he knew the date of the culmination of the protest but he did not announce because he was not certain about it.
Lauding the softness of the protest, Iraqi and Lebanese governments have requested JUI-F leadership to export the Gamla protection type protests to them.
