Three terrorists stormed a luxury hotel in the port city of Gwadar on Saturday, killing a security guard, and were later killed by the security forces after a long gunfight.
According to The Nation, the Station House Officer (SHO) Aslam Bangulzai stated that, around 4:50pm (local time) the police received reports that three or four gun men have entered into the Pearl Continental Hotel.
Additional police officer of Anti Terrorism Force (ATF), the Frontier Corps (FC) and the Army especially Pakistan Navy were called to deal with the terrorist situation.
After long hours of gun exchange, all three terrorists were eliminated in the operation that continued long in the night.
Balochistan’s Information Minister Zaoor Buledi said, all foreign and local guests at the hotel were safely evacuated.
The five star luxury hotel which is located on the Koh-e-Batil hill, south of West-Bay on Fish Harbor road in Gwadar, has become a frequent destination for foreign business and leisure travelers.
According to the statement issued by the military after the successful operation, FC and police barricaded the surrounding area of the hotel and were backed by the helicopters, Army commandos, navy and police surrounded the terrorists in a staircase leading to the top floor of the building.
During the operation conflicting reports were circulated about the casualties, Home Minister Zia Langove stated that the initial reported indicated that some people at the hotel were wounded during the fire exchange on the premises.
However, after the official statement released by the military, it was clarified that all the guests and staff were safely evacuated.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) , an ethnic Baloch separatist group fighting for the independence of Balochistan province, claimed the responsibility for the attack.
