The establishment has hijacked the national instrumentality of the state under the politically impotent leadership whose decisions are designed in Rawalpindi. The present political infrastructure and capitalistic ambiance is not only hazardous for the democratic substance of the state but also harbouring extremism and religious fanaticism that is eroding the ideologies and unorthodoxies for their power satisfaction.
This deep-rooted theocracy is providing a shelter to those religious clerics who are busy in rapes and fatwas. But, for you disagreeing to them or questioning their acts and supporting minorities against religious bigotry is equivalent to disowning your faith or are you in a fear of getting charged under blasphemy like Junaid Hafeez, Salmaan Taseer, Wajeehul Hassan, Mashal Khan, Ex Foreign and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif who was accused of blasphemy for merely saying that “all religions are equal.” From 1987 to 2017, 1,549 blasphemy cases have been filed.
The number of extrajudicial killings of blasphemy accused, without even reaching a court, is more than 75. Among the killed, 39 were Muslim, 23 Christian, 9 Ahmadi, 2 Hindus. In 2018 75 people were killed concerning blasphemy, and 14 murders took place in Lahore. Last year, Pakistan awarded death penalty to at least 584 people, out of which 17 were convicted for “blasphemy”, and 15 were executed.
People become intolerant when it’s about protecting their divine faith, but is it tolerable to see minors getting raped and harassed by religious clerics? You pass the verdict of death and brutality to peaceful citizens who use their right to freedom of speech. There were 2000 cases of rape and harassment by maulvis in 2003 and 500 in 2004. Amnesty International in 2005, wrote that leaders of religious parties resent official probing into the functioning of the madrasas and threaten retaliation if they are more closely controlled. On 7th March 2007, A spiritual healer Qari Sarfaraz raped a childless married woman when she went to him to seek his blessing for fertility at Kanganpur, Kasur.
In March 2006 Maulvi Ghulam Rasool and Muhammad Tayab torched a student, Javed Anjum, to death. A tally of cases reported from 2007 to 2017 of sexual abuse by maulvis is 359. In 2018 in Okara, the imam of a mosque in the village 43-GD was caught red-handed as he attempted to rape his 3-year-old student.
These inhumane religious clerics not only rape Pakistani kids but also get their hands on outsiders. In 2018, in Islamabad, Qari Aslam raped a 12-year-old Filipino child. In 2019 according to a news portal over 3,800 cases of child sexual abuse were reported. In 2019, in Lahore, Qari Tamjeed, Raped and Murdered his niece with friends. Some of the prominent cases occurred in the last 4 months of 2019, In September 2019, in Rawalpindi, Molvi Liaquat, the Imam of mosque raped a 12-year-old boy.
In October 2019, in Lahore, Qari Ahmed sexually harassed minors by touching inappropriately. Then in November 2019, in Panu Aqil Sindh, Imam of mosque raped an 11-year-old girl, Afsana. In December 2019 Maulvi Shamshuddin of a madrasa, along with his three colleagues, raped a 10-year-old child more than 100 times. In May 2020, in Layyah Rawalpindi, a boy Hussain was in ‘Aitekaf’ in a mosque when rape was attempted. In June 2020 Qari Tahir Shah, Imam at a mosque & running a madrassa in Model Town, Lahore, has been sexually abusing his students for 15 years.
In July 2020, in Haq town Punjab, Qari Usama sexually assaulted the kids and doused 4 boys with acid. In August 2020, in Naushero Feroze Sindh, a boy was raped inside the Mosque by Qari Abbas. The little boy was reading the ‘Quran’ when he raped him, as the act was caught on the CCTV camera.
Mullahism is not only destroying the modern thought process but, also producing pedophiles who envisage minors and women as sex objects! Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. Unfortunately, the Islam that is followed in Pakistan is contrary to what it actually is. The instability of civil supremacy in Pakistan and meddling of establishment in the constitutional avenue is a death blow to the democracy and secularism approaches towards the state affairs. The deplorable condition of the country is a result of the undemocratic installation of premiership and marginalisation of communities. The amalgamation of religion and politics is done to monopolize political power where religious absolutism and literalism discriminates citizens on the grounds of sectarianism and alienation of minorities.
In Pakistan, establishment serves as the nucleus of the dynamics of the political dashboard to trample on legislation and policies. Censorship on Media, ban on social media apps, curtailment of human rights, democratic transience, vandalisation of holy places of minorities, fatwas on students and scholars, rape culture, institutionalised misogynistic deportment, apartheid, ban on student unions, ethnical cleansing, is this how the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has progressed?
Why is writing truth and supporting rights a trade of life in this country? Patriotism is not how you support the oppressive authorities of the country for the sake of national security of the state under the manipulation of power mongers, patriotism is, to show loyalty towards the Constitution of the state by standing against suppression and unconstitutional intimidation without the fear of state and religious zealotry!
