“I was not aware of the importance of the Kartarpur till a year ago” Imran Khan told a gathering of 12,000 Sikh yatrees. Inauguration of Kartarpur is a remarkable feet when Pakistan and India have worsening political and strategic stand against each other. Journey of Sikh devotees completely broke the partition’s legacy and this expedition is full of emotions and sentiment at the time of the 550thbirthday of Sikhism founder, Baba Guru Nanak. Many analysts considered the opening of Kartarpur as a socio-cultural tie with Sikh community of India.
Pakistan made this possible despite rising Indian antagonism, confrontations and hostility in the region. Hindu nationalists attributed this project to be morally and financially supported by Pakistan Army to revive the Khalistan movement 2020. New Delhi considered this event a “ hidden agenda “ of Islamabad-Rawalpindi regime and a sinister and threatening move that cannot only hurt the Punjab economy but also will create a deep schism and rift in social, cultural and religious fabric of the country.
Latest controversial verdict if Indian Supreme Court came on day of landmark event at Kartarpur and it created more religious division in India. This decision is welcomed by extremist Indians Hindus due their religious affiliation with Ram Munder (Temple), but it is rejected by many liberal Indian and the intelligentsia as well. Many historians considered that this decision is based on faith rather than facts.
Babri Masjid was vandalized in 1992 a result of religious campaign that claimed that masjid was built in the 15th centuryat the birth place of lord Rama. In the Aftermath of annexation of Kashmir and Indian Supreme Court verdict, militant nationalism is becoming more powerful in India. Violent and Terrorists activities of extremist Hindus against minorities in India changed the Hindu nationalism into militant nationalism.
Like fascism, militant nationalism is also working for “greater India” and supremacy of Hinduism in the whole region. The rise of religious and militant nationalism in India can strengthen the right wing Islamist group in Pakistan that can open the way of new proxy war in whole region. Many Islamist and political groups criticized the decision of opening of Kartarpur corridor because these groups believe that visa free movement of Sikh pilgrims in Pakistan in against the national sovereignty of country. This extreme stance is due to rise of militant nationalism in India, and unfair annexation of Kashmir to New Delhi that created discontentment among Muslims especially Pakistanis.
Every section of society contain own views regarding opening of Kartarpur corridor but according to Imran Khan “this unprecedented gesture of goodwill from the government of Pakistan is a reflection of deep respect for Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji and religious sentiments of Sikh community who always wanted to have an easy access to the shrine of their spiritual leader and perform their spiritual leader and perform their religious obligations.”
