LAHORE: On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to senior PML-N leader and close aide of Sharif brothers in a drug case filed against him by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Dawn reported.
The LHC also ordered senior leader to submit two surety bonds of Rs1 million each.
The court had reserved the verdict a day earlier on a post-arrest bail petition filed by former provincial law minister, in the 15kg heroin recovery case, earlier this month, according to Dawn. The verdict was reserved on Monday (yesterday) after Sanaullah’s and prosecutors of the ANF concluded the arguments, as reported by Dawn.
The senior PML-N leader had filed a bail petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on October 2ndthat was withdrawn on October 3rd, to file the same at a later date. Earlier in December, PML-N leader once again filed the petition in the LHC for post-arrest bail.
On September 20th, a special court for Control of Narcotics Substance (CNS) had also dismissed a bail petition by Rana Sanaullah while releasing five co-suspects and again on November 9th, a CNS dismissed another bail petition by the PML-N stalwart, Dawn reported.
The former law minister Punjab was arrested by ANF team of the provincial capital on July 1stwhile he was traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore near the Ravi Toll Plaza on motorway, claiming to have seized 15kg heroin from his vehicle. Along with Rana Sanaullah five others including the driver and security guards of the PML-N leader were also arrested by the special team of the force, Dawn reported.
According to Dawn, The FIR was lodged under Section 9(C) of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997, which carries death penalty or life imprisonment or a jail term that may extend to 14 years, along with a fine up to Rs1 million.
