Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan chief Khadim Rizvi and former TLP’s Pir Afzal Qadri on Tuesday. The bail was granted in a case lodged against them for initiating a violent protest against the Supreme Court’s verdict to acquit Aasia Bibi in blasphemy case.
The court set their bail against surety bonds worth Rs5 million each.
The two member bench, Justice Qasim Ali Khan and Justice Asjad Javed Gharal granted Rizvi and Qadri’s bail until July 15 after plaintiffs submitted their appeals.
Qadri was booked under sedition and terrorism charges, who later resigned from the TLP amid his health issues and issued a public apology after receiving court’s orders.
Both Rizvi and Qadri were taken into protective custody last year in November after TLP announced it would observe martyrs’s day on November 25. TLP supporters led three day protests across the country against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi’s case.
