A project by Sadia Jabbar Productions, Mujhay Beta Chahiye, is a social story that revolves around the desire to have a male child. The drama serial starring veteran actors like Shagufta Ejaz, Sabreen Hisbani, Shahood Alvi, and Aiza Awan in pivotal roles addresses an important and prevalent social issue and a bitter reality of our society. Meaningful dialogues, strong storyline, and brilliant acting make Mujhay Beta Chahiye a must-watch serial.
The story of the drama revolves around a middle-class family who is living a happily married life. Salman and his wife Rubina have two daughters, and Rubina is expecting a third child. Salman desires it is a boy this time so that he can have a successor. However, Rubina gives birth to another girl. Because of some complications, the doctor also shares the news that she will never be able to give birth to another child now. Salman reacts in the worst possible ways to both the story, humiliates Rubina for giving birth to one daughter after another, and even refuses to accept his daughter. Things go from bad to worse in Rubina’s life, and her daughter dies because of Salman’s ignorance.
Salman completely changes as time passes and marries Jahanara, a cunning and clever girl, with an equally evil mother. Jahanara and her mother know how to manipulate Salman, and he falls ultimately in their trap. Rubina has to suffer at the hands of Jahanara and Salman, and they face one trouble after another. Meanwhile, Jahanara gives birth to twins, a boy, and a girl, and the couple takes just their son with them and leaves behind their daughter, whom Rubina adopts.
Salman faces a significant loss in business as his son is born. Still, later, to cover all the injuries, on Jahanara’s suggestion, he starts gambling to earn money quickly. His mother finds out and is upset about it, but Jahanara’s mother pushes her down the stairs, and she dies. Salman goes to jail after he tries to sell his daughter for money that he had lost in gambling. We then see some good days in Rubina and her daughter’s lives, while Salman’s life is now turning upside down.
Overall, Mujhay Beta Chahiye is a compelling portrayal of the mindset of people around us who yearn for a male child and consider a female child as a burden and a matter of disgrace. All the actors have done justice to their roles and give their characters the right treatment. The story is towards its end, and the preview of the next episode suggests that Salman will sow what he reaped. There are going to be some important messages as the drama is drawing towards closure, and we are looking forward to them.
