Nawaz Sharif left for Kot Lakhpat jail after six week bail expired

Former premier Nawaz Sharif has left Jati Umra for the Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail after his six weeks bail expired on Tuesday (today).

According to The Express Tribune, Sharif was followed by his party supporters and his daughter Maryam Nawaz tweeted on the development of her father’s travels on Twitter.

Maryam Nawaz also posted a video on her Twitter account which showed a large number of party workers and supporters gathered around Sharif’s Jati Umra residence.

Hamaz Shehbaz, Nawaz Sharif’s nephew and one of the 15 vice presidents of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) was seen driving the disqualified premier to Lahore jail.

The Supreme Court on May 3 dismissed reviewing of Sharif’s petition to sought permanent bail on medical grounds and permission to go abroad for his treatment.

On March 26, the former premier was granted six weeks bail on medical grounds.

Strict security measures were in place at the Nawaz’s residence when the Superintendent jail Shehzad reached there.

An accountability court sentenced Sharif to seven-year rigorous imprisonment after he was found guilty last year in December in Al-Aziza reference. The case was filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in line with the Supreme Court order.

Twitter flooded with supporting tweets for the 3 time premier, where Khawaja M. Asif tweeted “vote ko izzat do” (respect the sanctity of vote).

As the supporters’ procession reached Ring Road, Maryam once again tweeted a video of long queue of vehicles describing it as “jam packed”.
