Vice Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council Syed Amjad Shah, issued a statement on Saturday stating that as per Pakistan’s Constitution if any political party is found stating against the interest of the sovereignty of the State should be dealt by the Constitution, of the Executive and not of any other institution to comment or take action in that regard.
The statement was issued on the exception to the recent press briefing held on April 29 by the D.G.ISPR who criticised and commented on the activities of the Pakhtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) stating that the movement is responsible for taking funding from India and Afghanistan.
The statement released by the Pakistan Bar Council further stated that: “The remarks of the D.G. ISPR regarding activities of a specific political party being beyond his authority and not in accord with constitutional provisions rather amounts to intrusion in authority of a civil Government and that bring so is condemnable.”
D.G.ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor gave warnings in his press briefing stating that time is up for the PTM leadership.
“We want to do everything for the people [of tribal areas], but those who are playing in the hands of people, their time is up. Their time is up,” Maj Gen Ghafoor said, referring to the PTM.
“But the instructions of the army chief will be fully followed. People will not face any sort of problem and neither will any unlawful path be adopted,” he said, suggesting possible action against the PTM. “Everything will be done lawfully.”
“You have enjoyed all the liberty that you wanted to,” he said, addressing the PTM leadership.
