Islamabad: A wing commander of the Pakistan Air Force (PFA) was martyred after his aircraft crashed near the Shakarparian Hill in the capital city on Wednesday morning, Dawn reported.
The air force in a statement said that Nauman Akram was piloting the F-16 aircraft when it crashed during rehearsals; further stating that the wing commander received martyrdom in the incident.
It said that several rescue teams of the PAF were dispatched to the site; adding that the Air Headquarters had set up a board of inquiry in order to determine the cause of the accident.
National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser tweeted that he was “deeply saddened”, while Leader of the Opposition in NA Shehbaz Sharif expressed “deep grief and sadness” on the incident.
