Major General Asif Ghafoor, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG-ISPR) on Monday briefed the media on the Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement’s (PTM) links with Afghan and Indian spy agencies, and stated that time was up for the movement now as the leaders of PTM have already enjoyed enough liberty on this soil.
DG ISPR stated that despite PTM’s dubious demands there should be soft attitude towards them keeping in view that sufferings of Pakhtuns especially during the operation against terrorism.
Similarly, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor also added that, Pakistan had always catered to the demands made by the PTM which included clearing the areas from mines which still remains under operation, ending of check posts and addressing the issue of missing persons. However, PTM’s leadership have always said to take revenge from the Pakistani Army.
During his media briefing, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor questioned where were PTM leaders Manzoor Pashteen, and Members of the National Assembly (MNA) Mohsin Dawar, Ali Wazir , when terrorists were cutting throats and beheading Pakhtuns, “Now they are talking about protection of Pakhtuns,” he added.
He added that Pakistan Army have fought against terrorists and successfully forced them out of the tribal areas. Furthermore, he said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, was first one to engage with the PTM leaders and also directed DG ISPR not to deal with them harshly in anyway even if their demands are not genuine.
Speaking on the demands PTM put forth, the DG ISPR stated that as many as 48 teams of Pakistan Army’s engineers were deployed who have successfully cleared 45 per cent of the area from landmines and live bombs, in addition there 101 causalities during this process.
Fulfilling the second demand of PTM, several deputed Army personnel who have sacrificed their lives to protect the area. Their third demand which was fulfilled, as per identification carried out by the commission the high numbers of missing persons have been reduced from over 8,000 to 2,500.
DG ISPR further questioned PTM leadership about their means of donations and how much they have secured from abroad. He questioned about, how much funds have they received from Indian spy agency RAW, to stage a sit-in in Islamabad in March last year, and who was Manzoor Pashteen’s relative who visited Indian consulate in Kandahar last year.
